dsquared were appointed to undertake a detailed sustainability infrastructure review for the next stages of development at Adelaide Airport...
...including over 20,000sqm of new commercial space (The District Centre) expansion of the airport terminal itself, the Harbourtown Shopping Centre Precinct, Burbridge Business Park, Export Park, and the proposed new Airport East air freight precinct.
The study looked at establishing optimised solutions for the delivery of energy, water, and ICT services, managing waste, and the provision of transport services.
Solutions considered including modular/stand-alone systems, centralised renewable and low carbon systems, and precinct scale shared system approaches. All new buildings were modelled using a combination of Sefaira and IES computer simulation software and the proposed building designs optimised.
The outcomes established were used to inform the new Development Guidelines for the District Centre and dsquared subsequently assisted Walter Brooke Architects in the development for the final design guidelines themselves.
Further feasibility studies were undertaken for the deployment of embedded energy networks, gas powered tri-generation, large scale solar PV, and waste-to-energy systems, including a biodigester to process the Airport Terminal’s organics waste stream.
A detailed water, energy, and greenhouse gas emissions precinct calculator model was constructed to allow Adelaide Airport to undertake their own future scenario testing, and to support their ongoing requirements for reporting and rating using ISCA.
dsquared have undertook aircraft pilot glare modelling to CASA standards across the entire Airport Precinct in order to establish design and construction criteria for potential future large-scale solar PV arrays.
dsquared have also provided ESD, Compliance, Building Performance Simulation, and Green Building Rating services on airport precinct new buildings, and CASA aircraft glare modelling, including the SAAS RRAS emergency services building, the Oz Minerals Headquarters Building, and the new Pilatus Hangar.
