Uniting on Second bridges the gap between affordability and sustainability in housing.
Amid the current housing crisis, government and community alike are eager to provide more affordable housing options, with a number of different projects currently in development. Affordable housing offers low-to moderate income earners the opportunity to buy or rent at a rate that will not break the bank.
Good sustainable design results in lower energy and water use, and therefore lower bills, with improved levels of thermal comfort, ventilation and daylighting. The result is housing that is healthier as well as cheaper to live in.
dsquared are proud to be supporting UnitingSA in this endeavour, with their new affordable apartment development delivering 36 affordable rentals and 34 affordable sales in Bowden. The building is targeting a 5 Star Green Star Building v1 rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, demonstrating Australian Excellence and a holistic approach to sustainability.
Sustainable initiatives include:
- Centralised VRF air-conditioning system;
- High efficiency heat pump hot water system;
- Maximised solar PV array;
- High performance façade with double glazing and shading hoods designed to optimise thermal comfort;
- Community space on each level, including a shared roof terrace; and
- Recycled water connection to all apartments.
